How to Block Snapchat on iPhone

If Snapchat is what turns a quick check into an hour of stories, DMs and streak maintenance, the failure is usually not that iPhone cannot block it. The failure is blocking only the app while Safari, shared links, and the settings screen are still open.

Short answer: use Apple's free Screen Time tools to block both the Snapchat app and the web routes you actually use. If you want the same setup wrapped in sessions and a streak, SproutGuard adds that on-device with no account.

First: the four ways a Snapchat block fails

  1. You blocked the app, not the website. Snapchat still loads in Safari.
  2. You blocked the main app, not the web route. web.snapchat.com becomes the fallback.
  3. Settings are unlocked. The same tired version of you can remove the block in seconds.
  4. You never tested shared links. A profile or share link from Messages, Mail or Notes becomes the escape hatch.

1. Block the Snapchat app itself

For a single-app block, go to Settings โ†’ Screen Time โ†’ App Limits โ†’ Add Limit, open the Social category, and choose Snapchat. Set the limit to 1 minute so it behaves like a wall instead of a budget.

If your real problem is bedtime, study blocks, or work hours, Downtime is often better than App Limits because it blocks on a schedule instead of waiting for you to use up today's allowance first.

2. Block the website and web-chat routes too

  1. Open Settings โ†’ Screen Time โ†’ Content & Privacy Restrictions
  2. Tap Content Restrictions โ†’ Web Content
  3. Choose Limit Adult Websites
  4. Add snapchat.com and web.snapchat.com under Never Allow

This is the step most "block Snapchat" guides skip. Blocking only the app is usually just moving the habit from the app icon to the browser tab or the web chat route.

3. Lock Screen Time Settings

Use Lock Screen Time Settings and pick a passcode you do not know reflexively. Without this, the block is technically real and behaviorally useless.

If you can disable the restriction in ten seconds, you do not have a blocker. You have a postponed decision.

4. Test the routes you actually use

If one path still works, your brain will keep it. Fix it now rather than counting on restraint later.

When built-in Screen Time is not enough

Apple's free tools can create a real wall. What they do not add is much motivation. If you keep reversing the setup, the missing piece is usually not stronger blocking but visible cost: no streak to lose, no session to abandon, no sign that you backed out.

SproutGuard โ€” self-control, not parental control

Built on Apple's Screen Time framework. No account, no server, nothing leaves your phone. Block apps and websites, start focus sessions, and keep a streak that makes overrides feel expensive.
